Historic places to visit

Highclere Castle Home of the Carnarvon Family who famously discovered the tomb of Tutankhamen in 1922 with Howard Carter the archaeologist. The castle is a fine example of victorian architecture offering wonderful grounds and a tour of the house with its collection of Egyptian antiquities. Summer Concerts and events. Donnington Castle was built in the late 14th Century and the tower still survives with some earthworks. Visitors cannot enter the tower as it is unsafe however, a visit offers good views of Newbury. Located in Donnington on the edge of Newbury. Open all year
